Like with the other animated Christmas specials of my youth, my reviews of such on Letterboxd are the first time I've viewed them since my youth.
I wrote most of this while in Florida but am finishing the review in Kansas, where I landed about an hour ago. The flight went fine, at least by Allegiant standards. It's nice to be w/ family for the next several days. Compared to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or A Charlie Brown Christmas, this is not as good. Perhaps that is why the memories of this were incredibly hazy.
That said, a silly song from 1950 where the lyrics were only slightly modified for the special resulted in a tale where Frosty becomes sentient due to the magic hat of an inept, self-professed evil magician and to avoid death, a trip to the North Pole is necessitated. My critical opinion aside, it's still a nice, pleasant tale which is charming and given its annual airing on broadcast television since 1969, hopefully still enchants families to this day.
It has charming songs (well, song)/narration from Jimmy Durante and a simple story which makes it easy to like as a perennial favorite, no matter it using traditional animation instead of the traditional Rankin/Bass stop-motion animation.
