A surprisingly green spoof movie.
Of course, this was something I watched in my childhood, but the last viewing was eons ago so just discovering that the third in the series was going to leave Prime at the end of the month meant that it was time for me to rent the second last night. Probably right at the end of February will be 33 1/3.
It was largely the same as the first in terms of a spoof film, the types of gags (verbal, sight, absurdity, Frank Drebin doing something foolish, etc.), to the movie’s credit and demerit. While not as funny as the first, there won’t be any complaints for me about “sequelitis” as I laughed and was entertained enough where “pretty good” is the rating I’ll prescribe to the film. Plus, Robert Goulet surprisingly plays a villain better than expected, more bad things happen to the character played by OJ Simpson-making up for having to see an “alleged” killer on screen-and the movie does have a green message.
You see, the plot revolves around a scheme by someone in Big Oil (w/ nuclear energy & coal supporting) to prevent the federal government from focusing on renewable energy. As the environment and global warning still causes a huge stink in the United States today… to the movie’s credit potshots are delivered to the left along with the right. Some jokes are dated by 2023 standards although I am old enough to remember what all those gags were referencing. Perhaps the funniest moment of 2 ½ is Goulet and Priscilla Presley in the same film… at least if you know your Elvis lore.
