Featuring fashion choices that are either amazing, questionable, or both.No kidding, it was only randomly stumbling across a trailer for Go for It last night which inspired me to finally check out something else starring Terence Hill & Bud Spencer. As mentioned long ago, while I’m sure some of their movies were released in the United States, the duo never became huge stars like they were in Europe and many other locations across the world-this is why I’ve only seen a scant amount of those. Like was common w/ the Italians in the late 70’s through the 80’s, the movie was filmed in Florida. Speaking of The Sunshine State, Hurricane Nicole did impact some areas of my state yet only caused some wind & rain so it was no biggie for me.
This time, Hill & Spencer meet up in a bar, become buddies and due to circumstances are mistaken for extra-special CIA agents, then are able to fake it till they make it. Eventually you see it’s a cartoony (honestly, the movie’s quite a cartoon even by the duo’s standards) spoof of a Bond movie, complete with evil SOB who wants to destroy the world. In one of the several random oddball non-sequitor moments, his name is K1 because he “liked the sound of it.”
Go for It is incredibly silly that lacks sophistication except for the strangest gags. That said, I was still entertained because it delivered what you’d expect if you’ve seen any other Hill/Spencer picture, featuring some actors I actually recognized from other South Florida productions of the time, along with a catchy theme song and to further reveal its intentions, a few times you hear what I’ll describe as “bootleg Bond music.” Ol’ Bud is still a massive dude who beats everyone up and Terence is still a smartass.
As for fashion… Hill spends some time wearing roller skates because those were in vogue at the time; often he wears either caps of the St. Louis Cardinals or the Boston Red Sox, helping him “look American”… although the character says early on that he’s from Manitoba of all places. A random extra has quite a shirt which I’m sure is not in good taste today for a variety of reasons: on top is the phrase HEY IRAN and below, Mickey Mouse giving the middle finger! If that wasn’t suspect, note Spencer’s hat that he wears for most of the first half. It says… KISS ME, I’M BLACK. What was goofy back 40 years ago when this was filmed does not come across as that now, for sure.
