Denzel Washington killing members of The Mafia in Sicily… I’m sold! In 2018 I reviewed The Equalizer then The Equalizer 2 in one day, the latter at the cinema due to my air conditioning breaking down. Both were a good time; sure, the plots weren’t revolutionary but the way they were done, it was a lot of fun watching Denzel, not to mention seeing Dudes Get Wrecked ™ Yes, more dudes do get wrecked here; to the credit of the franchise, each film is at least a little different from each other.
This time, Robert McCall is in Sicily; the reasons why won’t be spoiled. Nor will I spoil why he stays on the island. He discovers that the Mafia (technically, the Camorra) have a stranglehold over a bucolic little town. They act particularly despicable so it was easy for us to root for McCall. Also, in a Man on Fire reunion, Dakota Fanning appears as a CIA agent.
There are not as many action setpieces; lest you think that is a turn-off, what action we do get is more gruesome & graphic. Those moments entertained me between the scenes of a great actor interacting w/ others in scenic Italian locations. I am personally a fan of all three movies; they aren’t pretentious, don’t cram in stupid, unnecessary “humor” and in this installment, there were less F bombs than there were in the redband trailer for Dumb Money; don’t expect me to ever review that.
